With three generations of boating history in the bay, Captain Bucko has a local knowledge that is second to none. His instinct for locating fish is reinforced with the years of experience handed down to him by his ancestors.
The Captain is a renowned local character and will regale you with tall tales and fishy jokes.
He’s a kingfish and snapper specialist who can show you great fishing and diving all year round.

Karlean Going
Karlean comes from a very large sporting family with a love and passion for diving and fishing and all things outdoors. She feels very fortunate to have been brought up in the beautiful Bay of Islands.
Having worked in the diving industry over the years as a keen Dive Instructor/Skipper, Karlean has had the opportunity to travel overseas on many and various dive and fishing trips.
She’s also a very keen spear fisherman who likes to take on the adrenaline rush of holding that extra breath to capture that special moment of the underwater world. |
Toby Kemp
Born in the Coromandel Toby has had a fishing filled life. A commercial fisherman by trade he has embraced the tourism aspect of fishing and is now working for Epic Adventures as a guide. Toby spends 200 plus days a year on the water guiding so feels he will fit right in on MFL. |
Leanne Tasman-Jones
Leanne is Auckland based and a very keen fisho, With 12 marlin to her name as well as records in Tonga for Sailfish and Wahoo she is up for any challenge. Her most recent feat was a 4 hour battle with a 370kg+ Bluefin Tuna.
Currently a part time deckhand for Epic Adventures on Sanity out of the Coromandel she is working towards her skippers ticket and may prove very valuable to the team. |
Grant “Espresso” Bittle
Based in fishing paradise – right on the edge of the Hauraki Gulf Grant passionately specializes in ultra-light tackle and extreme fish hunting such as landing double strikes of marlin solo, catching 20lb+ snapper on 2lb line and swimming inside workups to truly be amongst the action and capture ‘the shot’ on film.
Grant has his own NZ soft plastic company ‘Catch’, writes for several fishing publications and is generally known as ‘Espresso’, so whenever the weather allows – Just Say Go! |
Eric “Lethal” Morman
55 years of fishing/diving around NZ, countless amount of snapper over 20 and 2 over 30lb, endless amount of kingfish, inventor of Jigs, Lethal Lures, producer of Watch Out Fish/ Catching Big Snapper CDs, plus Wave Dancers Bite time calendar predictor.
Eric worked in the tackle industry for 11 years doing seminars all around the country simplifying fishing so everyone can enjoy and catch more fish. |

Match Fishing League does not condone that kind of practice. Unfortunately skippers/competitors are entitled to keep legal fish and some choose to do so. The practice of using species such as kingfish for livebait had not been encountered before, therefore not ruled against by the League. it will definitely be banned in future.
